Growing up in New York City with artistic parents exposed me to the creative life at an early age. I still remember going to the Met and Modern Museums to play "guess the artist" with my father. It seemed to fit when I chose to attend The School of Visual Arts majoring in photography.
After graduation I began work photographing art for galleries and collectors to use in reproduction. I started to notice how many pets were living at artist's studios or collector's homes. It was during a studio visit that Jedd Garet's cat walked over and lay beneath the painting I was about to shoot. I noticed a subtle similarity between the animal's fur and the pattern on the canvas. The beautifully striped cat crossed her paws as she looked up at me, I took the picture and the series had begun. Looking for visual connections between animals and the art they live with continues to inspire me.
